Swashbuckler Book Updates

I made it through the final edits for the print version of Swashbuckler and the Princess of Istanbul which goes on sale at Amazon February 28th, 2025. I don’t see a link for pre-sales so if anyone knows how to make that work, do let me know. Anyone out there Nook people? Or maybe Apple books? If so, do let me know so I can prioritize publishing to those platforms.

But some people prefer Kindle Unlimited, so if that’s your thing, go read it now…FOR FREE HERE. Who doesn’t like free??

New Book in the Works

I have been editing and publishing a book that my mom wrote as a biography of my dad. He survived two tornados that hit the same day in 1979; and that’s one one of the stories. If you like biographies, this one should be out in another month or so. More details to come.

Another New Book in the Works

This email promised you exclusive content, so this is it! I started writing a new fiction series focused on the people of Caledonia. That’s what the Romans called them, but we generally know them as the Scots. This first look at those people is a novella that tells the story of a young Pict boy who is eager to become a grown man like others in his village. His is an uncertain journey of trial and determination through a test of deception and danger. At this point, I’m not even sure myself if he lives or dies; we will find out in a few months once his story is written and published. Now read his hatred for winter and the darkness that accompanies it…

Winters are bleak here: dark and cold. The sun is difficult to find during this time, and when it is found, its light quickly escapes back into the darkness. Dark and cold. The little light of day and draining of warmth as it fades leaves but a few things that can be accomplished. One must plan carefully or be defeated by it all. Things must happen quickly and be completed in time. Dark and cold.

Night is unforgiving. In this place, there is little rest, and few hours to reset the body and gain enough warmth to make it through the next day. So dark, is this night. So long are its chapters, split by awakenings and dreams of spring. Dark and cold. Chapters in a saga with the same beginning and endings. Every night is the same until spring comes. Even my dreams haunt me: fears of losing my fire; animals who run in this night, fueled by the darkness; demons who roam the spaces between the living and the dead. This is my first night in it alone.

When can it be spring? When can the light stay longer and warm my bones? How long before my dreams can comfort me again? Will tomorrow be the day? Or must I endure more of these torments? I am done with them. Surely, they cannot linger much longer. But I must know. The uncertainty of this is the worst. Yes, some days and nights are better than others, but they are all a pain to me. I wish them to simply dissolve into whatever the gods have next for them. They cannot be this way for long. Surely, I will not last that long.

But I must go on. I have no choices. This is the path I have chosen, and I will walk in it. To remain is to overcome. To overcome the darkness and the cold of this winter.

I am Eógan and this is my story. I will not be beaten by the cold and darkness. They will fade into spring, yet I will remain!
